September 15 - October 17 - Luxembourg

We finally made it to Luxembourg on Thursday September 15. We stayed with Evan and Jess Thursday and Friday night. Our AirBnb was available beginning on Saturday September 17.

We haven’t planned anything in particular this year in Luxembourg. The only project that we have planned is assembling a playset that Jeri bought for the kids. Most of our time here is spent enjoying the European lifestyle while spending time with Evan, Jess and the grandkids.

Jess arranged a photo session for the family in the Grund and we were invited to join them. It was really fun. The photographer was a young woman from Ukraine. She told us her parents had just relocated to Luxembourg in May due to the Russian invasion. One of the locations was the Abbey in the Grund. It was right next to the Museum of Natural History.

Evan and Jess traveled to Spain for the weekend while Jeri and Blaine stayed at their house to watch the kids. Blaine took Jude and Lila to tennis and futbol on Saturday while Jeri stayed home with Fiona. On Sunday Blaine took Jude and Lila to the Museum of Natural History while Jeri stayed home with Fiona. Poor Jeri. She always has to stay home.

Blaine and Jeri decided to visit Remich. It’s a town on the border across from Germany, separated by the Moselle River. We were there a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so we took a bus there. We’re really getting good knowing the bus schedules! Once there, we rented some e-bikes and rode on the bike path along the Moselle River. We stopped at St. Martin’s winery and after some wine tasting, Blaine bought a bottle of Gewurztraminer. On our bike ride we stopped by one of the locks on the river. It was really peaceful as we were treated to a cacophony of birds singing.

Blaine and Evan started work on the playset. We worked on it for a couple of hours each day for 3 or 4 days in between Evan’s work schedule and rain. Jess took Lila to Paris for a girls’ weekend on September 7-9. She was meeting her friend Ashley and her daughter. Evan and Blaine took that time to finish the playset on Saturday. Then on Sunday Evan suggested we go to Echternacht, a small community about a half hour from Niederanven. We drove through the Mullerthal area before heading to Echternacht, and stopped at Beaufort Castle, which was built in stages between 1050 and 1650. In Echternacht we went to Echternacht Park, which is the site of a Roman villa built in the 300’s. The kids had a blast playing on the slides and other playground equipment. We ended our visit with lunch at the restaurant overlooking the lake.
