Tuesday July 18 2017 St. Andrews & Inverness

Because he couldn't get an assigned tee time, John got up VERY early to go hang out at St. Andrews to golf.  He was like a kid on Christmas morning!  His perseverance paid off, and he teed off at 7am as a single.  So, he can now check that off the bucket list of every golfer.  It was a beautiful day, no wind, fantastic course, and John shot an 89!!

While John was golfing, the rest of us enjoyed the beauty of St. Andrews.  Reid and Jeri walked along the beach (who knew that there is a fantastic beach right next to the golf course!?).  There were many walkers on the beach as well as a few swimmers and sunbathers since it was a great day!  Some women were riding their horses along the beach, so were careful of avoiding horse poop along with the enormous purple jellyfish that had washed up on the beach.  It was amazing to see the women ride the horses right into the surf!  The horses were up to their heads in the water and were actually swimming (as well as receiving their bath!).

About 12:30 pm, we left St. Andrews to drive to Inverness and begin our quest to find the Loch Ness Monster.  It was about a 3-1/2 hour drive to Inverness.  Our hotel was the Kings Highway on Church Street.  Again, we were quite fortunate to be located near the center of town.  We had a good meal at the hotel and then walked around town.  We saw some bagpipers in full uniform, so Blaine decided to follow them.  A lot of people joined in the walk to the center of town.  It was hilarious to see this crowd following the Pied Pipers!  The performance of the Inverness Pipes & Drums was fantastic!  We also greatly enjoyed the Scottish Traditional Dancing by the 2 young ladies who were accompanied by the band.  We really couldn't have asked for more in the way seeing a performance by a traditional Scottish band!
