Sunday July 16 2017 Kenmare & Edinburgh
It was a beautiful day in Dingle as we sadly left for the next leg of our trip. We drove to Barnwell and Kenmare. Barnwell is very important because it is John Wetterau's middle name as well as the maiden name of John's mother, Sally (whom we all love!) Although Barnwell is NOT on many maps, our GPS took us directly there. We were surprised that it was a unique subdivision on Kenmare Bay. We took a few pictures and realized that John's ancestral home must be the beautiful castle that we saw across the bay! We are sure Barnwells are there somewhere. We visited the local church and cemetery, but, sadly, never found the Barnwells. Kenmare is a mile or so away and another cute Irish town.
We left Kenmare and drove to Cork, where we caught our Aer Lingus flight to Glasgow, Scotland. Scotland will be our last country on this vacation. It was a very easy 1-hr flight. Upon arriving in Glasgow, we rented a car and Blaine drove to Edinburgh. We stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel on High Street. It was a perfect location in the center of town. We had dinner at Albanach Whisky Bar on High Street, where some of our group had their first taste of haggis. John also had his first Scotch in Scotland. It was a beautiful evening, and so we walked around this beautiful city while dodging seagulls.
