June 28 2017 Luxembourg - Museum Day
Today was museum day. Jess dropped us off in the center of town after having dropped Evan at work and Jude at daycare. Since the museum was not open until 10:00 we had time to grab a coffee and pastry. This town is heaven for coffee and pastries! The museum we chose to see today was the Luxembourg City Museum. It is housed in four restored houses from the 17th to the 19th century which still bear archeological traces from the Middle Ages. The huge glass cage of the lift gives up to 65 people views of the rock foundations on the lower levels as well as views of the city's Grund district and Rham plateau on the upper levels, revealing the stages of Luxembourg's history over the centuries. Also of interest are the ancient, vaulted cellars which were discovered during excavation work in the early 1990s.
On our walk from the museum to meet Jess for lunch, we passed by the Grand Ducal Palace where the Duke and Duchess live. Jeri wanted a picture of her in front of the palace, and after we took the picture a police motorcycle came roaring up to her waving her to the side. That motorcycle was followed by another motorcycle and 2 official black sedans. As the first sedan passed by and pulled into the palace, Jeri saw the Duke in the back seat! That woman just seems to attract royalty!
