June 23 2017 Frankfurt to Luxembourg
Friday June 23- We made our flight from Chicago to Frankfurt. We were fortunate to have been able to get 2 first class seats. That helps us to catch up on some badly needed sleep!! Once we arrived in Frankfurt we found the train station at the airport and bought 2 tickets to Luxembourg. The train took us along the Rhine river past some of the small towns we have visited in the past. One in particular was Bacharach, where Jeri and I stayed when she was pregnant with Evan in 1984. We also stayed there in 2010 with John and Reid Wetterau. We had to change trains in Koblenz, and from there it was about 2.5 hours to Luxembourg, much of it along the Mosel river. We passed through the little town of Coachem, which is where Evan and Jess made reservations for us to stay on Saturday night.

The long trip was worth it. Jeri finally got to be with Jude!
June 23rd is a national holiday celebrating the Duchess of Luxembourg's birthday. She was born on January 23, 1919, but she decided to celebrate her birthday in June because the weather is nicer. She has since passed away, but the tradition continues.
Relaxing and listening to music in the square.
