September 11 2016 Kensington Palace & Hyde Park
We took the tube again and visited Kensington Palace. This was the place where Princess Di lived after splitting with Prince Charles. More importantly, this was the home of Queen Victoria as a child, and where she met her future husband, Prince Albert. Again, the history is amazing. We met a very interesting and informant docent by the name of Julian. We asked him a few questions, but then he had to narrate the tour group, so we went along. It was scheduled for 5-10 minutes, but as Julian says, you can't get any info in that short amount of time. He spoke for 30 minutes for the group. He was amazing--entertaining, informative, and yet spoke in a way that we could relate to. We walked through Hyde Park and around Buckingham Palace (nothing exciting going on there on this day). We had lunch at The Swan, a beautiful restaurant just outside Hyde Park (near Lancaster Gate Tub station and the Italian Fountains). Blaine had his first Fish & Chips. Jeri had a Greek Salad (large and delicious!). We also had a hummus plate for an appetizer (pita bread--no vegies).
